Allen The present seismograph at Science Museum is of the same general layout and so must be a later model of the Milne-Shaw design. The main differences as I remember were: Only a approx. a quarter of the amount weights are now being used, the paper was the full width of the drum, stylus design as previously noted, the boom seemed to be a bit longer - can't be sure and definitely no descriptive card. Other than that it was generally the same and beautifully made in brass. I can see from your photo that the mechanism at the end of the boom would certainly magnify any movement. Also I can't say whether or not it had the same heavy cast iron base. Thanks greatly for photo it certainly scanned well. ------------ Regards Ted Rogers.
