Hi Everyone,
I recently purchased a USB to Comm Port adapter. I got it so I could connect
up two comm ports on my laptop for GPS usage. As an experiment I tried it
with my Serial Output A/D board and WinSDR. It seems to work just fine. The
only thing you can't do is download new firmware to the A/D board since only
the receive and transmit lines are supported on the adapter. There are
several adapters available on the Internet. I got mine from this company
http://pfranc.com/usb/usb.shtml. The cost was $29.00 + shipping. After you
install the driver the device looks like a standard Comm Port so
applications like WinSDR or WinPlotGPS can open the port and talk to the
device.
So if you ever want to run WinSDR on a USB only system it looks like it can
be done using one of these adapters.
